S.H.O.T. Horse Clinic slated for Aug. 12 in Alpine
ALPINE - West Texas horse enthusiasts can get a leg up on their horsemanship skills by attending the Stock Horse of Texas Horse Clinic from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at Sul Ross State University's S.A.L.E. Arena in Alpine.
The clinic is being presented by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Presidio, Brewster and Jeff Davis counties in collaboration with the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo.
"The Stock Horse of Texas Association or 'S.H.O.T.' as it's more commonly called, is a fast-growing organization that focuses on the western stock horse," said Jesse Lea Schneider, AgriLife Extension agent in Presidio County. "The association strives to improve stock horse enthusiasts' riding and training skills through educational programing such as this one.
Clinicians will be Kim Lindsey, S.H.O.T. executive director, and Jimbo Humphreys, a S.H.O.T. board of directors member.
"These top educators will cover the basics of the organization, introductory cow work and the solid horsemanship techniques that are used throughout the organization's four classes that are normally offered in competition," Schneider said.
Schneider said all ages are welcome, but youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Proof of a negative Coggins test for participating horses is required.
Individual registration is $75 for non-members and $50 for members. A $10 audit fee will be charged to those not bringing a horse.
To register, got to: www.stockhorsetexas.org/schedule.html , find the Alpine event and click on "registration form."

Werner Herzog, 1992, 50'
(Re-scheduled from two weeks ago)
Lessons of Darkness uses the fallout of the Gulf War to present what is one of the finest examples of the singular director's brand of stark-raving poetry. The footage mainly focuses on the blazes in the oil fields of Kuwait. It uses sheer scale to put the conflict into perspective while demonstrating both the awesome power of nature, especially fire, and our primal attraction to its beauty.
