The Marfa and Presidio County Museum Association Board of Directors will hold its annual public meeting at 6 PM, Tuesday, April 5, at the museum. The purpose of the annual open meeting is to report to the community on the museum's activities during the previous year and on plans for the current year. Texas Toast Culinary Tours heads to Big Bend Country again, April 4-8 ï¿½ and weï¿½d like to invite local folks to have some fun with our group.

On Saturday, April 9 the Kokernot Lodge amphitheater in Alpine will host a music and dance festival to benefit Relay for Life. There will be arts, crafts, food, and activities for the kids. The musical line up includes Border Blasters, A.W.Ayon (from Las Cruces), S.H.I.L.O. Friends of Marfa Public Library Host Afternoon Tea (and Coffee) In
Celebration of National Library Week.

Everyone is welcome on Thursday April 14th from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. to join the Friends of Marfa Public Library for Afternoon Tea (and coffee) in celebration of National Library Week and to launch their Annual Membership Drive. The afternoon will be highlighted by several local speakers of note. At 4:00 P.M. Wendy Wright will give a presentation of a new childrenï¿½s book she illustrated entitled THE ADVENTURES OF DROP.

This will be followed at 4:30 P.M. by Douglas Humble, Marfa Residency Manager of the Lannan Foundation, who will speak about the work of the Lannan Foundation here and elsewhere. Says Humble, ï¿½Lannan has always been impressed with the work of the Marfa Public Library. Books are an integral part of an informed public and Lannan is honored to be a part of that endeavor with the Marfa Public Libraryï¿½.

At 5:30 P.M. Caitlin Murray will speak on her work as an archivist at the Judd Foundation and in the field of Library Science. Murray is inspired by S.R. Rangathan, noted twentieth century librarian and she will speak on his philosophies

The program will end with Library Director, Gloria Applegate addressing alarming current concerns of public libraries in Texas and the effect of possible budget cuts.

The Friends of Marfa Public Library are dedicated to supporting the libraryï¿½s services in any way they can. They have purchased six computers that are available for public use; they recently donated a state-of-the art Blu-Ray player for the Libraryï¿½s film program and soon a beautiful bulletin board will be installed to display art projects from community children.

To renew or acquire a new membership please join us at Marfa Public Library at 115 East Oak Street any time between 2:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.
High tea and coffee (which includes sandwiches, cakes, cookies and other sweets) will be served in the Gervasi Room at the Library, throughout the afternoon.

RAILROAD REVIVAL TOUR AT EL COSMICO

This April, Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show will embark on a tour unlike any in recent memory. Traveling exclusively in vintage railcars, the three bands will journey across the American Southwest over the course of a week. The aptly titled Railroad Revival Tour will feature the three bands playing concerts at six unique outdoor locations along the route, beginning April 21st in Oakland, California.

Pony Palooza, a live auction and party, will take place at the Hotel Paisano, Saturday April 30th beginning at 6:30. Tickets are $10. The event is sponsored by the 2010-2011 class of Leadership Big Bend to raise money to purchase a Fjord pony for the Davis Mountains Therapeutic Riding Center in Fort Davis.

There will be music, a live auction, refreshments and a cash bar! Viewing of the auction items begins at 6:30 and the live auction begins at 7:30pm. ALL proceeds will go toward the purchase of Jack, a Norwegian Fjord pony, and scholarships for therapeutic riding.
