Description: | Spring Tree Workshop in Alpine set for March 30 Writer: Steve Byrns, 325-653-4576, [email protected] Contact: Jesse Schneider, 432-729-4746, [email protected] ALPINE � Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a free multi-county Spring Tree Workshop from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 3:15 p.m. March 30 at the Kokernot Lodge in Alpine. Kokernot Lodge is located at 400 North Harrison in Alpine Texas. Three general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available. �Trees usually don�t come to mind when most folks picture West Texas, but when it comes to our home landscapes, trees are very dear to us,� said Jesse Lea Schneider, AgriLife Extension agent in Presidio County. �The purpose of this workshop is to bring our region�s homeowners and landscape professionals up-to-date on the very latest in yard tree management.� Speakers will include Oscar Mestas, Texas Forest Service regional urban forester El Paso, John White, Chihuahua Desert Garden assistant botanical curator El Paso, and Mark Muegge, AgriLife Extension entomologist at Fort Stockton. Their topics will include: landscape, fruit and nut tree selection; staking young trees; landscape, fruit and nut pests; pruning fruit, nut and landscape trees and growing, and growing grapes at home. The workshop is being conducted by the AgriLife Extension offices in Presidio, Brewster, and Jeff Davis Counties and there is no charge for this workshop.
