Fancy Pony Land
Description:
Marfa artist Takako Tanabe will show new sculptures and drawings at Fancy Pony Land beginning this weekend. Please join us for an opening reception Sunday May 2nd from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be served
Takako's recent "milk crown" sculptures focus on small miracles that are ignored or missed every day. By recreating water drops hitting a surface into static three-dimensional figures, she attempts to bring the missed moment back to the world to make it fuller.
In her two-dimensional works, Takako has been working with multiple images of "unhappy speech balloons" for the past six years. By drawing them repetitiously and continuously,
she hopes that elements missed in communication and dialogue in life make marks in time.
The exhibit will be on display through June. Fancy Pony Land is at 203 E. San Antonio St. 432-729-1850

The Chinati Foundation and Marfa ISD, with support from Ballroom Marfa and Friends of the Marfa Public Library, will host a public program and reception in honor of the release of a new collection of poems written by Marfa Jr/Sr High students. The event takes place Tuesday, May 4 at 6 PM at Marfa Book Company, with student readings followed by refreshments. Editions of the hand-bound volumes, each with unique covers and student introductions, will be available, with all proceeds benefitting the MJSHS Student Fund.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the release of the book and meet the many talented students involved in the project. Perry and the students involved in the workshop will appear on Marfa Public Radio's Talk at Ten on Tuesday, May 4 at 10 AM.
