Water Well Screening
August 25 & 26, 2010 there will be a Water Well Screening program sponsored by Texas AgriLIFE Extension Offices in Brewster, Jeff Davis & Presidio Counties in cooperation with the Chihuahuan Desert RC&D; Office and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
This TEX-A-Syst program will screen well samples for Bacteria, Salts and Nitrates. Local well owners will pick up sterile sample bags and register on the 25th, return the samples on the 26th and results will be mailed after results are completed.
The cost of the screening is $5 per well. That is considerably cheaper than taking individual samples to a commercial laboratory.
Sites to pick up sterile bags between 10AM and 4PM on the25th and return them on the 26th between 10AM and 12 Noon will include.

The 2nd Annual Marfa Jazz Festival August 27-29
Celebrate the end of summer and cool off with some of the best sounds in Texas.
In partnership with Marfa Live Arts, the Marfa Jazz Festival will showcase some of Texas� best musicians. The festival begins on Friday, August 27 @ 8pm with Austin and LA chanteuse Chrysta Bell backed by Canadian guitarist Jake Langley, Grammy-nominated bassist Chris Maresh, and phenomenal drummer Rob Kazenel. The second concert on Saturday, August 28, 8:00 P.M. features Horace Alexander Young on sax, flute, piccolo and vocals. Jake, Chris, and Rob will also back Horace. And finally, on Sunday, August 29 at 1:00 P.M. will be The Texas Gospel Showcase! We are pleased that this sold-out show from the Padre�s Grand Opening weekend will become a part of the Marfa Jazz Festival. Vocalists Barbara Johnson Tucker, April Hubert, and Jo Carol Moffett join the Reverend Jimmy D. Hunter for this special concert.
All 3 performances will be at the Crowley Theatre (Austin St. and El Paso St., Marfa, TX). Tickets are $20 for each show, available on-line for will call and at the door, cash or check only. To conclude the weekend, Padre�s will host a Jazz Jam on Sunday, August 29 at 6:00 P.M. Jazz Jam tickets are $5 with all proceeds benefiting the Marfa Jazz Festival.

Shakespeare comes to Fort Davis on Saturday, August 28th at 6:30 p.m.! Mark your calendars, bring your friends, and plan to have fun at "Midsummer Night's Dream" garden party. Sponsored by the Friends of Jeff Davis County Library, the program will feature students of Alpha Psi Omega theatre group under the direction of Dona Roman of Sul Russ State University. The costumed actors will present selections from the Taming of the Shrew, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Much Ado about Nothing and culminate with the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. Live Elizabethan music and light refreshments with wine will complete the event in the beautiful garden setting at the Hotel Limpia in Fort Davis. Fee: $50 CDRI members; $65 nonmembers. Limited to 20 participants.
The CDRI in Fort Davis is sponsoring this hike.
We�ll carpool to Bridge Gap, then make the approximately 3-mile round trip hike to the summit and back. You�ll gain about 1000 ft. in elevation. Nature Conservancy Conservation Biologist John Karges will be our guide.
